Conferences

We had our mid-semester conferences yesterday at Lexi's school. They went really well. They have seen her grow and develop since she was three - and I must say -some very interesting stages at that :). Her teacher "K" mentioned at least three times, that he is pleased to see a girl with "spunk"- and then proceeded to mention that Lexi is FULL of spunk :). No seriously, both teachers told us we should be very proud of Lexi - not that we need them to remind us of that - contrary - but it makes this mommy's chest puff with pride :).

One of the things we really enjoy, is the fact that the CSC is also a teaching facility for the college students studying psychology and early childhood eduction. Each semester, a different student is assigned a preschooler to 'shadow' and kind of profile. At the end of each semester, we are given a compilation of some of their notes and this is what we learned yesterday:

• "Lexi gravitates towards playing with the opposite sex" - yes, we know, she is found of her 'guy' friends :)

In regards to 'perceptual skills' - it was noted:

• "During lunch, Lexi is remembering the story about the 'Three Little Pigs" 'K' (the head teacher) told and how she was supposed to learn not to talk with her mouth full. She said 'K' should have put food in his mouth so everyone had a better example" :)

Phonics Knowledge:

• "during 'alphabet soup' activity, the students were asked to name words that begin with a certain letter. On the letter Q, Lexi said 'Cuba'. She thought it was a Q word based on phoneme."

I'm more impressed she even knows about Cuba :)

Word Structure:

• "During preacademics of correctly placing letters in correct spot, she kept asking after her turn, "Do I win?"

Yes - she's competitive!

Sentences:

• "She was being fussy all day & one of the teachers asked her what was wrong, she said, "I'm having a bad day." When asked why, she said, because her breakfast she was eating in the car had 'fell on the floor'.

OK - yes, she uses appropriate noun-verb and noun-verb-object combinations - but could she have used a different example!? lol - breakfast in the car was our secret!!! :) lol.

Yes ... there were many complements and examples of her academic achievements, but I found the quotes above, to be the most telling of Lexi - independent thinker and creative.

Yes Lexi, we are VERY proud of you :)
